This is a short novel that really captures the psyche of the young drug culture. The main character, Kyd, is an extremely relatable character. You feel his emotions deeply as he experiences failure and success. Ryder Stone truly embodies her character through the jargon used and the stories told. The first person style of writing feels as if Kyd himself is talking directly to you. Kyd is a lovable character whom you want the best for regardless of his actions. He is naive but truly cares for those around him. It is clear that the author has a philosophical background, making Kyd's justification one of passion and sophistication.
This novel is thought provoking and I recommend it to anyone willing to step behind the mind of a young kid justifying his harsh lifestyle fully immersed in the American drug culture.
